Why Train With Us?
We are an accredited school with actual credentials for what we do.
Our industry is not regulated and so anyone can put up a sign and call
themselves Grandmaster So-n-So and teach whatever they want in the
name of martial arts. This is why there are over 4,000 types of martial
arts in the world, many belt systems, and many methods of achieving the
same end. As a general rule, as long as these people don't hurt anyone
or teach wacko ideas, nobody says anything. Sometimes their style even
gets formally recognized! We, however, are who we say we are. We got our
rank the old fashioned way and our lineage can be tracked.
Accountability. We are accountable to our Sensei, who is the head of the
Shinsei system. We are accountable to the Shinsei Hapkido Federation.
We are accountable to Karate for Christ International. Accountability
keeps everyone on track.
Partnership with Teachers and Parents. We issue Permission to
Promote forms prior to rank testing for all students K-12. These must be
signed both by teachers and parents to ensure that students are
behaving and working at acceptable levels at home and at school.
Quarterly reviews for all students. We issue quarterly reviews for all
students which assess motivation, class participation, attendance and
any areas that may cause delays in progress, as well as to extend
accolades to students performing at high levels. These are signed and
returned by all students, children to adults, and kept in their formal record
at the school.
Our style is not stagnant. The core is the core but as better ways to
perform emerge, or holes in old theories make their way to the surface,
our head of system is not afraid to make those necessary changes to
better the system.
Our heads of system know what they are talking about. They train law
enforcement personnel and others in the public and private sector, and
they live what they teach. Our founder has been a long time bail
bondsman and our head instructor lives in danger every day as a
missionary in Asia. The things they teach must work or they wouldn't be
doing them.
We are local and we are part of the community. We know what goes on
in the community we serve and know the needs of our clients.
Our black belts attend trainings sessions several times per year to
learn and grow in our art. We work out with the head of system and
many higher ranked veterans in our style. Our black belts must meet their
approval in order to be given official, registered, rank.
We don't yell at or demean our students in any way. We believe that if
you are in one of our classes that you want to learn and we will facilitate
that learning to the best of our ability. Our students are treated as
individuals, with dignity, and we use positive reinforcement to motivate
them.
We have a close partnership with Karate for Christ International
(KFCI) and we support Asia Reach Ministries through that partnership.
Leslie Sowl is head of Membership Management for Karate for Christ
International and also the Ohio State Representative for that
organization. Leslie and Kim White both earned Instructor Certification
through KFCI, as have several of our lower ranked black belts.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to work
towards a black belt. We believe it is our job to help our students
achieve that goal. Whether they achieve that goal is up to them.
Our rank tests are measured, quantitative tests of physical ability,
head knowledge and maturity. Students perform in front of a panel and
are scored based on ability. All student KYU rank is official.
We offer the opportunity for students to attend extra FREE training
sessions focusing on Kata training, Test Prep, etc. We also offer FREE or
low-cost seminars and the chance to travel to train with others in our
system.
We encourage people with special limitations, children and adults with
AD/HD, and all others to train and better themselves. Our style has so
many components that there is a home for just about every learning
ability, every body type and size. You are only limited by the limits you
place on yourself.

standards and ethics for teaching martial arts.
The only reasons we can find to NOT train with us are if you looking to train
specifically for tournaments (we are not a tournament school), are overly
aggressive, have rage problems that you don't want help with, want a black
belt in 24 to 36 months, have children that you absolutely will not let anyone
else correct when they are wrong, and can't take direction well from other
people, including women. We aren't here to just take your money. If we
are not what you are looking for, we have no problem referring you to
other qualified schools in our area. Martial arts schools are like
churches, you have to find one you like and stick with it!
