Services We Provide
We teach a mixed martial art, Shinsei Hapkido, recognized by both the
Korean Hapkido Federation and the World Kido Federation in 2003. We also
teach basic karate, self defenses and weaponry; along with martial art
themed fitness classes and Women's Assault Prevention.
Students have the unique opportunity to train with heads of the Shinsei
system at special seminars and with other top individuals at Karate for
Christ International seminars.
Our classes are conducted by adult black belts who have been certified by
Karate for Christ International.
All of our classes are kept small to insure quality instruction and all martial
arts classes begin with prayer. Beginner level and up end with short Bible
lessons.
List of current classes:
- Tiny Tots Karate for ages 3-4. This class meets once per week for
30 minutes and is unique because it focuses on basic pre-school
skills such as following directions, waiting turns, spatial awareness,
stranger danger, memorization, basic tumbling and ukemi (the art
of falling), and very core but basic karate movements. Basic Bible
verse memorization is introduced.
- Pre-Karate for ages 5-7. The age requirement for this class
depends upon the student's attention span and focus. This class is
geared to move students into the Beginner Karate level so we
focus on the same concepts as Tiny Tot Karate but there is a
heavier influence of karate skills and ukemi and mini-tests working
them towards their first real karate rank. Students are required to
memorize a school creed with body motions and Bible verses
introduced bi-monthly. The class meets once per week for 30
minutes.
- Beginner Karate for ages 8 and up. We teach family style classes
which means everyone together. We have black belts and helpers
on the floor to ensure that everyone moves at the proper pace.
This class focuses on ukemi, basic karate, basic hapkido, basic
judo, self defenses and limited grappling techniques. Memorization
of a class creed, Bible verses for each rank, and short essays at
rank promotion are also required. There is no sparring at this level.
Class ends with a short Bible lesson. This class meets twice per
week for 50 minutes each session.
- Intermediate & Advanced Karate, all ages. This class is normally
run with two adult instructors. The focus is the same as Beginner
Karate with the addition of advanced techniques in all areas, plus
grappling and light contact sparring. Weekly lessons from Psalms,
Proverbs, or other books of the Bible shape the character of these
higher rank students. This class meets twice per week for 90
minutes each session.
- Weapons Class. This class is offered by invitation only to students
who hold 6th rank or higher. The Bo staff is the first weapon
studied and students are required to pass a test on this weapon
prior to Shodan testing. Other weapons are offered once the Bo is
mastered (Korean Cane, Korean Dagger, Sai, Tonfa, Sword). Live
blades are reserved for black belts 16 years of age or older. The
class meets once per week for 30 minutes.
- Black Belt Club (BBC). This is a special club for students who hold
8th rank and above who are serious about attaining a black belt
and meet certain requirements. Students in this club may attend
ALL the classes offered for their level plus attend a weekly BBC
class. They also have the ability to purchase special BBC uniforms
or gear and attend events hosted by Black Belts for them. Another
important perk for members in this club is that they do not pay KYU
rank test fees. The only fee they will pay for testing is for their
Shodan test (1st degree black belt).
- Cardio Karate for ages 16 and up. This class is based on basic
karate movements, aerobic and strength training, and incorporates
basic yoga, pilates and flexibility training. If you get bored easily,
this is the class for you! Class is 45 minutes long.
- Heavy Bag Class for ages 16 and up. This class is for serious
workouts and stress reduction! Boxing gloves, or MMA wrap
gloves, are required. The class is 45 minutes long and contains
warm up, aerobic sets of bag work, floor work, flexibilty training
and a cool down.
- Women's Assault Prevention Seminar. These three hour seminars
are for girls and women ages 12 and up. Workbook and certificate
of completion round out this practical, hands-on course. One hour
of lecture, two of physical application. We have them monthly
either at our facility or off-site.
